Since having children I have been making a large body of drawings documenting the life of my family. The drawings reflect the fleeting and spontaneous nature of figures interacting and are the means of discovering images.
The subject matter of my children offers a powerful resource that
motivates my work. As much as I know them, I’m intrigued by
what remains unknown and an enigma to me.
I’m looking for images that explore the subtle states of being
that arise either through the flights of fantasy that carry a young
person out of themselves or the intoxicating sensations of fully occupying
the moment they inhabit. I’m interested in how this can impact
on an adult perspective and the references and associations we attach
to such images.
The act of painting is an ideal way of engaging in the secret of an
image and I want the painting process to reflect the intense yet transitory
nature of perception and experience.
