“Everywhere in the modern world there is neglect, the need to be recognised, which is not satisfied. Art is a way of recognising oneself, which is why it will always be modern.”

Louise Bourgeois

Goldfish are proud to present ‘Move’. This exhibition will occupy a temporary space in Vyner Street, London, from 11th October until 4th November 2007.

This multi media exhibition represents a collection of artists all working in close geographical proximity in the far west peninsula of Cornwall.

There is an evident quest for pure artistic power and creative freedom and expression above the pursuit for renown or affluence as the greatest form of verification, making art with purpose is of evident primary concern. These artists strive to demonstrate an unguarded search for clarity, truth and meaning.

‘Move’ represents a need to remind, rejoice and confront, demonstrating moments of lucidity, vulnerability and resolve in the search for transcendence and meaning in a nihilistic and prosaic world, an honest and liberated exploration of the psyche, its yearnings and its conflicts in the 21st century.

It is a deliberate gesture that ‘Move’ should take place in East London, throughout Frieze and its satellite fairs and present itself in contrast. The timing and placing of this show has therefore become significant. A principal objective is to refocus attention, or be seen as a refuge from the pounding drum of technological progress and the blinkered march of civilisation at the expense of all else.

It is my hope that this show will inspire as well as move.
